Day 238 – January 30, 2012 – New adventures for everyone!

Number of days in Amsterdam – 238

Number of days without a bike theft – 234

Days since it last rained – 0

Today it wasn’t rain. It was snow.

I thought it wasn’t supposed to happen here, but it’s cold, and it’s snowing.

Today also marked a few big occasions.

It was the day Nicole went back to the office from maternity leave, and my first day as a stay-at-home dad.

We played.

I fed the baby.

I changed the baby.

And I crammed in work while she slept.

We’re still working on our routine, but I feel very fortunate to have this time with her.

Actually, I’ve loved the past four months that Nicole and I have had together every day.

It’s given us an opportunity to give the Kitten a good start, and the opportunity to give ourselves a great start as a family.

But most selfishly, it’s given me the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Nicole. I love that.

This morning was a bit sad, as Nicole headed off to the office on her bike. I know she doesn’t want to leave the baby all day, even if it’s in my most-likely capable hands.

And frankly, I was jealous to see her ride off on her bike. Even if it’s freezing.

In all my newly acquired free time, though, I’ve come up with an idea for a TV series, or at least a book.

I shall call it The Adventures of Miss Cat and Miss Kat. And it will be all about the wacky adventures of a stuffed cat and her little girl as they run about Amsterdam.

It just needs to warm up a bit first.

But I am entertaining offers from the networks. You know, if they want to call.

The other milestone? Two wonderful expat friends wrapped up their expatriation. J (a fellow Detroiter) and Robyn (a Texan, but we’ll forgive her) ended the Amsterdam portion of their worldly adventure. We’ll miss them terribly, but I hope they have a safe (and warm) new set of adventures in lovely Las Vegas.

J’s last move was to post a beautiful set of snowy photos from here in the ‘Dam on his blog. I’ll say bon voyage to those kids, and urge you to check them out here.

So, are we entering the next phase of this site, where it becomes the ramblings of a stay-at-home dad who can’t find time to shower? Quite possibly, because the shower didn’t happen today…

His musings on music appear at punkmusic.about.com, and he has contributed to both fiction (Read By Dawn Volume III) and nonfiction (Punk Rock Saved My Ass) anthologies.

I <3 that kat and cat are roughly the same size, and look forward to seeing that ratio change!
