Day 112 – September 26, 2011 – Rebel Girl…

Number of days in Amsterdam – 112

Number of days without a bike theft – 108

Days since it last rained – 3 0

There was a brief disturbance in updates to the blog while we had some celebrity guests in town from Detroit. I find that I prefer to entertain rather than update while people I never see are in town. So, get ready for a massive special episode again where I bring you all current to the goings on in the ‘Dam.

I had another dream last night. I was holding the baby and singing her a classic punk rock song – “Rebel Girl” by Bikini Kill.

That girl thinks she’s the queen of the neighborhood. I got news for you – SHE IS!

I know part of it has to do with the new baby blanket that’s hanging off the edge of the crib right now.

Somehow, I feel this blanket may be very appropriate for this little one…

So this day marked the first day of Nicole’s maternity leave. I worked from home for a while, and then we went for a walk through Albert Cuypmarket. Lunch consisted of chicken sate from a street vendor.

I could really get used to having her around all day every day.

Which is good, because the next four months are going to be that way.

Tomorrow marks another big event – our last prebaby visitors. I’m looking forward to hanging out, and having fun reminding myself how special this city really is.

And when I say they’re celebrities, I mean it. They’re sponsors of this site, and rock stars in their own right. It’s the folks behind Ann’s Fabulous Finds, including Ann herself! And today gave us a nice misting of Amsterdamp in preparation for what appears to be a week of beautiful weather! Our guests must be bringing it along with them!

About Ryan

Ryan Cooper is a writer from Detroit who decided to trade in his car for a bicycle, his little bungalow for a fourth-story walkup, and his life in the Motor City for an existence in Amsterdam. Along the way, he quit his job, sold his belongings and, with a pregnant wife in tow, decided to see if the American dream wasn’t to be had somewhere overseas. His musings on music appear at punkmusic.about.com, and he has contributed to both fiction (Read By Dawn Volume III) and nonfiction (Punk Rock Saved My Ass) anthologies.

Glad to hear the reason for a week without updates – I was just thinking of asking if everything was ok with Nicole & kitten…. Enjoy your time with your friends – pity the weather is back to autumn mode…..
