Day 87 – September 1, 2011 – Bye Bye, Purple Pony…

Number of days in Amsterdam – 87

Number of days without a bike theft – 83

Days since it last rained – 0

Sorry about the brief absence, we’ve had guests visiting from the States, and my desire to be a tour guide has caused me to neglect some of my other duties!

Like when we went to Germany, though, watch for another massive episode – the Labor Day edition, where I’ll tell you about our wacky adventures in the Dam… and just how much we’re feeling the love from home.

That’s all tomorrow, but for today, I’m going to tease with you something…

Remember this girl?

All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up...

Well, the Purple Pony is no more.

Sort of.

Today, I am riding this little brown bike.

It’s what’s known as an omafiet (“grandma bike”). It’s what they left behind when they took the Purple Pony away today…

Wait what?

Here’s the deal. The Purple Pony has been selected to be pimped by Amsterdam Magazine for their “Pimp My Bike” feature!

So this morning, they brought over the omafiet as a loaner, did a photo shoot of me and the Pony (the before photos) and whisked her away to be given to a graffiti artist to have their way with the bike for a few days. I’m not sure what we’re in for, but there’s a more than solid chance that the Purple Pony will need a new name when she gets back.

Stay tuned…

His musings on music appear at punkmusic.about.com, and he has contributed to both fiction (Read By Dawn Volume III) and nonfiction (Punk Rock Saved My Ass) anthologies.
